====================INTRODUCTION========================

**<>/**<>/**<>/**<>/**<>/**<>/**<>/**<>/**<>/**<>/**<>/**

Welcome to that special time of year when the scroll handle on your JRS email is very ... very small. Yep, we got a big one today. Including a brand spankin' new section! Oh, but why?

Particularly around now, we see an ever-increasing number of folks kicking off fundraising efforts to keep (or get) their playa projects rollin'. And as we know that many of you are enthusiastic about donating to these efforts, we're introducing a new section today where you can "Support A Project." There, we'll list selected projects** who are in need of assistance ... and we encourage you to put your money where your values are if one of these projects floats your boat.

**Please note: in order to draw the line *somewhere*, we only post fundraisers for creative projects (art installations, theme camps, performances, etc.) that impact a large number of people in Black Rock City, and projects that are actively propagating Burning Man culture around the world. Projects are selected solely at the discretion of Burning Man's Communications Team. As much as we would like to support every last fundraising effort for all the great causes large and small out there in our community, we simply can't overwhelm our signal-to-noise ratio ... and no, we really can't ask everyone to help fundraise for your camp's booze supply -- the key here is supporting collective, collaborative creativity.

In other news, there's a ton going on around our far-flung community, online and in the ol' face-to-face, and we've got a good slice of it here for you.

Oh, and if you're reading this on Thursday, the Man burns in 100 days!

Gasp.

LOW INCOME TICKET PROGRAM NOW CLOSED

Our ticket minions report:

"The Low Income ticket program is now officially CLOSED. We have received more applications this year than ever before and the "or until supplies run out" clause came true - supplies of this tier ran out before the cutoff date.

Thanks to all the applicants for not waiting until the last minute to apply! LATEST POSTS IN THE METROPOL BLOG SERIES

Metropol is our ongoing blog series, exploring the dynamics of urban planning and design, and their impact on culture and community, as seen through the lens of the unique Petri dish that is Black Rock City. We invite you to read through posts from a variety of authors, and join the conversation!

http://blog.burningman.com/metropol/

Our latest posts include ...

The Street As An Urban Social Space, by Steven Young
Whether in Spain, China, Greece or Black Rock City, streets are connectors, not only between places but between people. It is where we meet and it is where we act out our lives as social beings and communities.

The Temple: Sacred Heart of Black Rock City, by Lee Gilmore
Great cities contain spiritual and ritual centers – physical manifestations of the human quest for the transcendent and magisterial. For Black Rock City, that heart is perhaps best identified with the annual Temples – each an ephemeral locus of memory and mourning.

Black Rock Arts Foundation (BRAF) Civic Arts Program ~ Duel Nature - For a period of 5 months (July 1 – Dec 1, 2010) BRAF is transforming the vacant corner lot at Sierra St. and Island Ave. in Reno into a temporary interactive art installation, performance venue and community gathering spot. Following the last two year's successful art installations, Celtic Forest-2009 and The Mangrove-2008, BRAF will continue bringing the art from Burning Man to downtown Reno. Duel Nature will be another art venue for people to enjoy during Artown activities in downtown Reno throughout the month of July. Duel Nature will continue BRAF's goal of being more than an art installation that is merely viewed but rather a gathering space active with community interaction.

Previously funded by Burning Man and exhibited in Black Rock City in 2006, Duel Nature, by New York artist Kate Raudenbush, is exceptional in its materials, scale and artistic vision. "Duel Nature references the spiral of our human DNA. The struggle inherent to the duality of the human condition is expressed by the violence of the raw plasma-cut, bolted steel exterior, in contrast with the vitality of the interior blood-red mirror. As visitors gather inside the vibrant core of the sculpture, their myriad reflections remind us of our shared genetic bond and our shared humanity. At night a center light will transform the mirrored interior into a beacon of red reflections and cast dramatic shadows on the ground surrounding the sculpture." says Kate.

Weekly entertainment on Tuesday evenings will feature fire spinning and dancing by Controlled Burn with World Music by local DJ's including last years collaborators: DJSource, David Bobizan, and RYPE. Asha Belly Dancers, 319; Celtic Music, Jill Snyder; American Folk Music, Java Djembe, African Drumming and Dancing, DJSource; World Music, Sturdy Beggars, Douglas Saum, Dave Cherry, Bruce Knowleton, Sage Heart, the Schitzopolitans, Trigger, Mojo Green and several other groups performed last year and are interested in collaborating with BRAF again, to activate this art installation.

BLACK ROCK ARTS FOUNDATION HELPS WITH LEVI'S "COMMUNITY DAY"

On Cinco de Mayo, the Black Rock Arts Foundation joined in celebration of Levi Strauss & Co.'s "Community Day", and brought Burning Man principles into play in the real world. An excerpt:

"During the volunteer experience, local designers and artists led a crew of Levi's employees in a mass production of dog beds, all made from reclaimed denim, that were then either auctioned off to raise money for charities, or donated to PAWS, a volunteer-based organization that provides for the comprehensive needs of companion animals for persons with HIV/AIDS, other disabling illnesses, and senior citizens."

WANT TO HELP WITH THE GULF COAST OIL SPILL CLEAN-UP? BWB HAS INFORMATION

The BP/Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is a catastrophe of epic proportions, and a lot of help is going to be needed to clean up this environmental disaster. Burners Without Borders has collected information about how you can get involved:

BUILD A GRAYWATER EVAPOTRON FOR YOUR BURNING MAN CAMP

Our friend Ember writes:

"Life in Black Rock City depends on fresh water, and therefore produces waste water. What to do with graywater? In a one-day workshop, you can build a wind-powered evapotron that eliminates up to 20 gallons of graywater per day. It's useful; it's artistic; and like a village fountain it helps create a neighborhood.

Four workshops are scheduled for this summer:

Sun June 6, Santa Clara (5 slots available)
Sun June 20, BM office, SF (10 slots available)
Sun July 18, Berkeley (6 slots available)
Sat July 24, Sports Basement SF (10 slots available)

In 2009, eight of these wind-powered graywater-eaters quietly disposed of hundreds of gallons of waste water. You may have seen one in operation on the lawn at Decompression.

What's a workshop like? It's like a party, but more focused; it's like a class, but more fun. For some participants, it's their first experience at actually building something for Burning Man. You will likely learn some techniques with wood, wire, and other homely materials that will have you thinking about future projects.

For more information, look at our group: http://groups.google.com/group/gray-b-gon, or for short type tinyurl/evapotron in your browser's address bar. To sign up for a workshop, contact ember@burningman.com ."

REMEMBRANCE PLAQUE FOR NAMES OF BURNERS LOST

Since 1996, an anonymous burner has created a plaque to commemorate members of our community who have passed away in the previous year. This tradition continues to honor those people who have impacted our Burning experiences and participated in making Burning Man happen. This is a call out to you, our community, to please let us know of any burners lost in the last year, who you feel should be added to this year's Remembrance Plaque. Please send only their name, exactly as you would like to see it appear, to this address:

remembrance@burningman.com (please DO NOT HIT REPLY to this JRS!!)

Submissions need to be received by July 20th to be included on this year's plaque. Submissions after the 20th will be added to next year's plaque.

Note: the plaque is not displayed in the Temple, where more elaborate and personal memorials are created by participants.
Look for the completed plaque at the base of the Man from Monday (August 30th) through Friday (September 3rd).

May their spirits move on to the eternal playa!

THE SHROOM TO RETURN TO BURNING MAN IN 2010

We're happy to relay the happy news that The Shroom will be returning to Burning Man 2010 after a successful debut in 2009. This Rabbit was standing right there when Larry Harvey giddily produced a copy of The Shroom and passed it around to any and all who were within reach. He really liked the Unicorn Flu story. And to be fair, it's pretty damn funny. Julian (a miscreant), writes:

"I'm one of the miscreants behind The Shroom, which is BRC's least reliable parody newspaper.

Larry Harvey cited our story about the Unicorn Flu last year as being one of his Burning Man moments. Needless to say we were tickled and we've decided to ramp up our efforts. The blog site is being updated and improved.

That URL is: http://theshroom.wordpress.com/

We also have a Facebook page now: http://bit.ly/bT0AQo

We are working on a special edition issue for Lightning in a Bottle and will have at least two more issues ready for the Playa. We're also working on having real newspaper dispensers for BRC.

We'd love some exposure in JRS to up the readership and make some more people laugh. Thanks so much.

In Dust We Trust,
Julian Ajello"

PLAYA INFO SEEKS COMPUTER HARDWARE

Playa Info's Brillig writes:

"Help the environment and Playa Info! We need computer hardware for participants to find and post news about themselves, their friends, art, events, and rideshares at Burning Man. If you've got working gear and plan to toss or ecycle, we can reuse:

LCD monitors. We do not want CRTs!

PCs with a CD-ROM, 512 MB of RAM, Pentium 2 or greater, and ethernet jack. Hard drive is not needed, but we can secure erase the hard drive if desired. Small computers (like Dell Optiplexes) would be wonderful. Laptops (with power cord!) are also great.

Keyboards and mice with PS/2 or USB connectors.

Ethernet switches (not routers) from 4 port to 48 port, 100Base-T or faster

Please contact brillig at playainfohardware@att.net "

SEARCHING FOR BURNING MAN SUPPLIES? TRY OUT TINKOMATIC

This is pretty nifty. Skinny D writes:

"Will and Team,
Just a quick shout-out about a web app I developed and that can help people get their gears and art parts in place and in time, and without depleting the planet:

TinkOMatic (http://tinkomatic.com) allows you to search multiple classifieds and auction sites at once, and save your searches for later monitoring.

You can currently search craigslist, oodle, backpage, kijiji, and eBay all at once; and if you don't find right away that elusive playa bike, parabolic antenna, or tent frame you need for your next project, you can just save your searches, and easily check whether anything new came up.

The app is completely free and has been featured on lifehacker, mashable, and techcrunch.

Peace,
-Bob a.k.a. Skinny D."

BURNING MAN EPISODES ON THE BEAT ORACLE RADIO SHOW

Pretty darn nice set, Kenny ... feels like being on the playa. Kenny'Lectro writes:

"I co-produce a weekly radio show in Columbus, Ohio called The Beat Oracle. 2009 was my first Burning Man and when I returned from the playa I was so excited and inspired by my experiences. I requested to my co-hosts that I be given one full two-hour episode to dedicate to my Evolution in Black Rock City. On October First we aired that show. I would like to share the sound-filled journey of my first Burn with the rest of the Burners out there. Here is a link:

I hope you enjoy. Looking forward to Metropolis! Already got my ticket :)

BURNER FRIENDLY BAY AREA TRUCK RENTALS AND RV CLEANING

Wally Glenn offers this sage advice for renting trucks from Burner-friendly companies:

"The subject of Burner-Friendly truck rentals came up on the Honoraria List. I figured the same information might benefit others who get information through channels like the Jack Rabbit Squeaks.

Truck Rentals:

Truck rental companies are not as burner-friendly as one might like. Some rental companies have anti-Burning Man policies. I have heard first-hand stories from people where reservations were cancelled at the last minute with no warning, I have heard stories of people returning rental trucks only to find a picture of their truck in their camp and a sizable fee tacked onto the rental. This information might help people who need trucks in the Bay Area and would like to support businesses that are friendly to responsible renters.

Bay Area Rentals:

My best suggestion for truck rentals is O'neills Truck Rental in Oakland.

O'neill is burner-friendly. In fact, he will give you a 20% discount on the truck rental if you mention you are going to Burning Man.

He has a flat-rate for cleaning. Bring the truck back dirty and he charges a flat-fee of $99.00. Just drop off the truck and he will take care of the rest. He is lowering the cost per mile this year to .20 cents per mile.

He loves return customers.

O'neill rents 24', 15', 12', vans and more. Tell him what you need, when you need it and he'll reserve a vehicle for you with no hassle. I mean seriously, there's no scams like U-Haul, Penske or other truck companies.

O'neill is where I am renting my truck this year for my project.

RENTAL TRUCK / RV CLEANING IN FERNLEY

Yep, bringing back rented RV's all trashed from Burning Man hurts us all by damaging our reputation. Wally Glenn suggests:

"If a company is complaining about a truck coming back dirty, the best suggestion is to wash it. Effectively cleaning a 15' or 24' truck is no easy task. The easy solution is take it to a truck wash.

I have been using Blue Beacon Truck Wash in Fernley. It takes an hour, but you can get the entire truck cleaner than when you picked it up. They wash exteriors, interiors and engines and trailers. For anyone heading home via I-80, it's really easy to stop and get your truck cleaned. For those of you heading north on 447, I could not find a truck wash in Alturas, but there could be one in your home town.

Blue Beacon also clean RV trailers and motor home exteriors. This means you can get the RV cleaned, waxed and ready to be returned or ready for storage.

I hope this helps. Have a lovely day.

HAPPY RESULTS OF JOHN GLUECK'S TICKET GIVEAWAY

As you may remember, we let you know in a previous JRS that John Glueck was giving away a Burning Man ticket to a deserving participant. Well, now he's written back to let us know how it all went down:

"Hello all!

Well, after some very difficult and rewarding time, we got stuck on two emails. With different stores, but to our minds both very worthy and deserving individuals.

So, we had to make a call and our call is give two tickets away.

One is being given to Juliett Jade Chi. Her story to us is that she found one of her closest friends on the playa. They remained close into the Default World. Merrill inspired Juliett with her determination and strength, which she maintained in spite of much suffering, physical and emotional. Merrill was a nature photographer, a lighting designer, and caretaker of second hand treasures. Sadly, on April 5, 2010, Merrill left us, taking her own life.

She left instruction for Juliett to bring her ashes to the Temple, to return her to the playa.

This year, Juliett will bring Merrill Home, for the last time.

Our second ticket goes to Inbal Baron. Currently Inbal lives in Sderot, Iseral. Each day she must endure missile raids and attacks from the Gaza Strip. Her time is spent surrounded by fear, hate and not to speak lightly of it, but all things bad. She wrote in, and asked for a ticket, so that she may embrace the wonder, friendship, love and peace that Burning Man offers, in a way that you can never experience anywhere else.

This year, Inbal gets to come Home."

OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: BURNING MAN VIDEO ACCULTURATION SERIES!

Remember your first time at Burning Man, finally seeing everything you'd been hearing about?

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a thousand pictures (or, more accurately, about 30 frames per second). We're always looking for new ways to share information about how to prepare for Burning Man, and every year, we get queries from returning participants with their tips, tricks, first-timer advice, and questions about how the Survival Guide, Ten Principles, and other "Burning Man Essentials" can be best communicated to the next generation of newcomers.

Well, this year, we think the answer is: YOU!

Burning Man is calling all FILMAKERS, ACTORS, ACTRESSES, DIRECTORS, VLOGGERS, AUTEURS ... ACROBATS, GIANT BUNNIES AND SUMO WRESTLERS! We want YOUR film submissions to share as part of the first ever BURNING MAN VIDEO ACCULTURATION SERIES!

We want YOU to dust off those cameras and old-school Burning Man footage, or grab your friends and let the tape roll! (Anyway you do it, we don't care how ... just make sure to read the guidelines below!) Create and send in YOUR short films and video – the contest deadline is July 10, 2010, so read on and start shooting!

A panel of participant/judges will help select the best and brightest submissions to the Burning Man Video Acculturation Series 2010. Winning choices will be featured and shared broadly to help quickly acculturate brand-new participants in 2010 – and to help illustrate the principles and experiences of Black Rock City to the larger world. Your friends and other Burners all over the world will see YOUR video as we gear up for Burning Man 2010 Metropolis!

So get out your cameras and open your editing suite -- what do YOU wish people knew about the REAL Burning Man experience? Whether it's video-blog style instructions from you or your favorite playa expert, or a high-production film noir starring all your friends, we just know there are dozens of great short films and videos to be made, and we can't wait to see yours!

Possible Film Topics Include:

+ Acculturation: What did you wish you had known before you got to Black Rock City?
+10 Principles—Would you like to illustrate or teach others about one or any of our principles?
+History—Do you have a classic piece of video that illustrates a special piece of art, theme camp, or performance and why it matters to you? An idea for celebrating the 25th year of Burning Man?
+ "We Are Everywhere"—2010 kicks off our 25th year, and now Burning Man happens every day, all over the world. How can you explain what Burning Man is beyond the week in the desert?

The top video submissions (that meet the requirements-see below) will receive:

+Promotion and celebration via an announcement on the Burning Man Website;
+ URL link in the Jack Rabbit Speaks (100k + readers strong in 2010!);
+ Featured presentation on Burningman.com and through Burning Man's other communication tools to help your video reach all participants in Metropolis;
+possible inclusion in future film festivals, gift DVD's, etc. and a chance to collaborate in future projects!

AND ...

The winning film(s) will be showcased at a special red-carpet "Movie Premiere" at Media Mecca at Burning Man 2010!

The critics will rave! (We all know it, right?)

REQUIREMENTS:
-Video must be under 10 minutes
-Video must be posted on Youtube, Vimeo, BlipTV, Flickr, or another free video hosting platform that allows embedding and linking. Please do NOT email actual video files – host them elsewhere and share the link instead.
-All content in the video must be yours OR you must have written permission to use it. (This includes music—NO copyright violations will be accepted!)
-Please credit all performers and artists in the video
-You must have permission from ALL featured individuals to use their image in your piece. (NOTE: Please be aware of participant privacy, as you would for any public video shot at the event. If you shot video with a personal use registration tag it is okay to use that footage for this project, but if your friends or campmates are recognizable in the video, it's policy -- and really, good etiquette -- for you to let them know you now plan to share the footage with a much wider audience than your own friends and family. If you can't manage to contact recognizable individuals in your shots, use other footage instead).
-By posting and submitting your film/video for this Video Call, you agree to let Burning Man share (and possibly excerpt or remix) your work for non-commercial purposes.
-All submissions must be sent to cameratales@burningman.com with a working URL link and a credit list by JULY 10, 2010.

Winners will be announced by August 1, 2010.

Lights ... camera ... Action!

BLACK ROCK SCOUTS

This? Is beyond way cool. Judi writes:

"Black Rock Scouts is a budding new program for burner kids. Imagine to Boy/Girl Scouts, based on the Ten Principals of Burning Man. Burner-kids are the next generation, so the goal is to teach them what it takes to build and maintain their Black Rock community, and what it means to be a burner.

We invite theme camps, Earth Guardians, BR Rangers, DPW, DMV, Lamplighters, Greeters, Temple, BMIR, Airport, Recycle Camp, Arctica, Fire Dept., Medical and Emergency Services to host playa-cational field trips. We also invite art cars to host playa cruises or offer field trip transportation.

As parents, we're trying to encourage gifts of tiny meaningful tokens, instead of moopy-toys and sweets. The scouts will earn awards of patches, tokens or pins... for things learned, survival skills achieved, good deeds and connections made. Awards will be worn on functional bandoleer sashes made from recycled blue jeans, so we'll need seamstresses. I'm raising funds for patches with my fuzzy clip-on tails, see Cinder Garden Designs below.

ATTENTION ALL ROAMING MUSICIANS!

Carbon Buildup (aka Ostensible Leader of the Burning Band) writes:

"The Burning Band is always eager to add new folx to its cadre of talented and not-so-much musicians. We are a silly semi-marching band that has been performing on the playa since the mid 1990's, and we'll be there again this year as part of Snowflake Village. If you can play any kind of instrument that's at least partly portable we would be glad to have you join us. We also have room for non-musical performers who like to hang with marching bands (for whatever perverse reasons).

Dig out that trombone, tune up that saxophone, duct tape your bagpipes together and meet us on the playa! We promise not to laugh at you, only with you. Contact me, the Ostensible Leader of the Burning Band, at meezllz@gmail.com, or our piercing piccolo SINdy at flossyrabbit@eathlink.net for more information."

CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE BURN? YOU CAN STILL GET YOUR MEMORIALS TO THE TEMPLE

Madgirl had a great idea. She writes to tell us about it:

"The other day in a fit of boredom at work I was daydreaming about the burn and I found myself thinking about gifting on the playa. I've been struggling with this - I really want to give something back to the rest of the BM community but I don't know how I feel about the idea of giving material things. And then it hit me!

One of the most memorable things about the burn for me is the Temple. I spent hours there last year, reading the things that people had written and looking at the photos they had left. The amount of emotion contained in that small space still blows my mind and the Temple burn was one of the most amazing and spiritual experiences of my life. And then I got to thinking: what about all those people who can't make it to the burn this year but have letters/photos/messages/whatever that they would like to put at the Temple?

So this is for all you burners out there that can't make it home this year but might have something you want delivered to the Temple: I want to take it there for you. While I would love to say that I have unlimited storage and cargo space, that's unfortunately not the case, so I have to ask that you keep it small – a letter/email or photo or small object. I would hate to have to turn people away if I get more requests than I can handle so hopefully that won't happen!

If you have something you would like me to deliver, contact me at csuskiergirl@yahoo.com. Most likely the easiest way to get things to me will be by mail but of course I'll be willing to try and work something else out if need be.

Please pass this on to all the other Burners you know (I'm thinking regional groups, etc.) because I want to make sure this reaches as many people as possible. I am hoping to get some of my campmates involved, and if there is anyone out there who would be interested in helping with this project I would love to have you join me!

Dusty hugs and kisses to my burner family,
~Madgirl"

BUY PLAYA STAPLES AND SUPPORT THE IRON MONKEYS

The Iron Monkeys are a Burning Man honorarium artist collective. Help them out if you can:

"Many groups throw parties or awesome events in order to raise money. The Iron Monkeys however, are good at making things. We thought that making something that will last for years and save a foot or two from impalement would be a good way for us to raise our capital. It work great last year and we are hoping it will do so again.

We are selling Playa Staples.

Playa Staples are hand-forged, square stock steel tapered to points at each end and bent into a 'candy cane' shape. When hammered into the ground they lay flush with the playa and will not trip or skewer people like that unsafe rebar stuff. They enter the playa easily and stay secure until it's time to go. Playa Staples are removed quickly and simply by levering them straight up. They've been around since 2003 and are time tested and burner approved (with over 4000 made and sold in that time, over 2000 in 2009).

There are two sizes:

- Regular Playa Staples are roughly 10" on one side and 6" on the other, with 1-1/2" spacing in the center, and are made with 3/8" square stock. These are best for tents, carports and smaller structures.
- Large Playa Staples are roughly 15" on one side and 8" on the other, with 2" spacing in the center, made with 1/2" square stock. These staples are designed for use on large structures (domes or tie downs for things that require a more solid anchor).

If you have any questions please let me know (Tabasco@theblacksmithshop.com). Special orders (sizes and styles) are available. Cash, check and CC via Paypal accepted.

Shipping you ask? Thanks to the wonder of one price boxes from USPS I will be shipping everything Priority Mail.

Sunday's "NOW" films offer a look at Burning Man through the eyes of filmmakers who have documented the event and the larger influence that Burning Man culture has had in the world from 2002 to the present.

Program highlights include a Midnight screening of /Juicy Danger Meets Burning Man /by David Vaisbord on Saturday evening with a cocktail party, roving performers, and a grand raffle. On Sunday, David Best will be available for a Q & A before the screening of /The Temple Builder/, a film by Dearbhla Glynn and April Blake that looks closely at David Best's life and work and Burning Man temple projects.

SCORCHED NUTS REGIONAL BURN - ATHENS, OHIO - JUNE 17-20

Greetings from the KOI Burners!

We are the regional community of Burning Man participants from Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana (KOI), and we would like to invite you to Ohio's official regional Burn, Scorched Nuts! This is the 4th annual SN event and we are planning it to be the biggest and best yet.

Scorched Nuts 2010 Awakenings is a gathering of a collaborative, creative community, largely based out of the tri-state region of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. It is built and run by its participants and volunteers. It will be held on June 17-20, 2010.

The event embraces the 10 Principles of Burning Man and will be an interactive experience that is both everything and nothing you will expect.

The key ingredient to making Scorched Nuts a successful event is for everyone to PARTICIPATE! Every person who joins us for the event is expected to find someway to give of themselves with the goal of making a better community for everyone. Each individual pays their way here, there is no compensation for performance, volunteer work or artwork. Everyone is here as an equal, and as such we all have part to play. However discounted tickets are available to registered VIP's (Very Involved Participants).

This will be SN's second year at the beautiful and secluded site called Reclaim. This land is located just south of Athens Ohio in Rutland. It is a reclaimed strip mine and has no amenities, however porta potties are supplied. The land is completely private and we encourage our Participants to embrace their desires and let go of inhibitions. This is a place where you can dress in over the top costumes, see unique art pieces fill the landscape, dance the night away and let go of any fears of being judged. All are welcome and all are free to express themselves as they desire.

Tickets are now on sale! Please go to the Tickets page to purchase or get pricing options.

Discuss Scorched Nuts and other regional burns with us at http://www.koiburners.com

LAKES OF FIRE 2010 (A SPACED ODDITY) - LACOTA, MI - JUNE 24-27

Great Lakes Experimental Arts, Inc. is beyond thrilled to announce that tickets for Lakes of Fire 2010 (A Spaced Oddity) are currently on sale through the website http://www.lakesoffire.org/tickets/

Hosted at the Willow Ranch Arts and Events Center in rural Lacota, Michigan, USA, Lakes of Fire is a collaborative celebration of art, fire, music, and friendship. Lakes of Fire 2010: A Spaced Oddity will be for you, and by you. Like last year, you'll enjoy outdoor camping, both in theme camps and in open camping settings; music, a glorious effigy, large and small scale art (both fiery and otherwise), a carnival atmosphere, and all of the creative energy and wild spirit that you and hundreds of your closest friends from around the Great Lakes (and the world) can bring! Envision the Great Lakes version of Black Rock City. Lakes of Fire will be smaller than Burning Man, more accessible, and with rolling hills, forests, and fields instead of open playa. You won't get dust storms or temperature swings. But you'll surely enjoy the mosquitoes, rain, and toxicodendrons-radicans.

Your theme camps, art installations, and workshops are again welcome and in fact, necessary. You can sign up here!

http://www.lakesoffire.org/theme-camps/

If you're driving, Lakes of Fire's location is roughly two hours from Chicago, four hours from Detroit, Milwaukee, or Indianapolis, six hours from Cleveland or Columbus, and seven hours from Toronto.

Tickets will remain on sale until sold out, or until Saturday, June 5, 2010 11:59 E.S.T., whichever comes first.

You'll need to purchase a ticket on-line to enter Lakes of Fire. No ticket? No Entry. No exceptions.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS, MAKERS AND FREEDOM-LOVERS TO EPHEMERISLE! - JULY 22- 25

Imagine a small Burning Man-like event that takes place on the water. And focuses on freedom, creativity and community.

Ephemerisle 2010 will be our second year of hosting a floating festival on California's Sacramento River Delta -- and we want YOU to come check it out!

People will bring their crafts and their ideas to build an eclectic temporary village of boats, rafts, junks, and other floating structures organized into five separate island nations. A large central barge will serve as a common space for everyone to come together. We'll have art, music, dance, open mic performances, classes ... and whatever other interesting rituals and events participants create and share. YOU will define what Ephemerisle 2010 turns out to be.

Public ticket sales begin May 10th through Brown Paper Tickets. Check out the website for information about houseboats, workshops on building and powering your own floating platform, and our grant program for water-based art and projects.

Questions can be directed to ephemerisle@seasteading.org. For the "big idea" behind Ephemerisle, check out www.seasteading.org.

TODD GARDINER'S BURNING MAN 2009 PHOTO GALLERY

You're gonna love these shots. Todd writes:

"As one of the photographers of the Burning Man documentation team, I have produced photos from Cameragirl several times over the last ten years. Capturing the interactions of people with their volunteer jobs, with art, and with other people and sharing that interaction with the community drives me every year. (And it drives my camera to the shop every other year for a thorough cleaning!)

I'd like to share some of that dust with a larger audience. If you would care to include the link below in the JRS, I'd be pretty excited.
